New Vicar Installed into Parish
Thursday, 30 March 2006, saw a sizable congregation in the Parish Church of Keswick St. John to witness the institution of Canon Stephen Pye as vicar of the Parish, by the Bishop of Carlisle, the Right Reverend Graham Dow, and his installation by the Archdeacon of West Cumberland, the Venerable Colin Hill.
Invited guests, and parishioners from Stephen Pye’s previous parish helped swell the congregation of regular worshipers. The invited guests included the Mayor of Keswick, Councilor W Weightman, the Head Teacher of St. Herbert’s School, Mrs S Miller, the Operations Manager of the Convention, Mr S Overend as well as local clergy, clergy from Derwent Deanery and many friends and colleagues of Stephen Pye
The congregation were in good voice singing a variety of hymns, from old familiar ones such as “Hark! hark, my soul! Angelic songs are swelling” to the more modern “As the deer pants for the water” with John Green on the organ. He also led the choir in an excellent rendition of “Faith, Hope and Love”.
During the service Stephen was welcomed to the parish and Keswick by the churchwardens, members of the ministry team, local clergy & dignitaries and finally by Ben Hooper & Ellie Fanning representing the youth of the church.
The evening was rounded off with refreshments served in the church. The spread of food presented was excellent, as we have become accustomed to at St. John’s, with many favourable comments.

Thanks must go to the Rural Dean, the Reverend Bryan Rothwell for organising the service, to those that took part, and the ladies of parish for the wonderful refreshments provided. It was a magnificent start to the ministry of Stephen in both the parish and Keswick.
On Sunday Stephen took his first services in the Parish Church of Keswick St. John. All services were well attended, with a feeling that St. John’s can once again move forward with Stephen at the helm.
